July 2006
Drawing Class. As part of the externship for the Equinology
dissection class I could choose to go to the skeleton exhibition at
my local museum. I enrolled in the “Conversing with Bones” weekly
workshop presented by The Australian Museum Society, and after
trying to use a python as my model, I moved on to a thoroughbred
horse Sir Hercules (AUS 1846) and his thirteen-year-old girl rider.
The different drawing techniques gave me further perspectives for
assessing my equine friends.

April – May 2006
Dissection Class with Dr Deb Bennett This class spanned five days
and there wasn’t too much of the horse we didn’t
explore and get to see. If you ever get a chance to learn anatomy
from an expert like this, take it, it can only enhance your
understanding of what lies beneath the skin. Take a look inside the
tendon sheath of the suspensory tendon; this pic is hopefully one
you will find fascinating, whereas my other
snapshots may only be for those with a strong intestinal fortitude.

January 2003
As you have seen in other entries, I enjoy
meeting other therapists. January came and I flew to Canberra for
the day, a very smokey day due to the bushfires and met up with
Debranne Pattillo of Equinology Inc. My astrology email arrived just
as I was leaving with a note " New friendship is more likely than
ever when it's between people with shared values." It was an
interesting day checking out the sites, breathing smoke and sharing
ideas. For more information on Equinology visit

October 2002
This was an adventure - 24,600 miles in three weeks. I finally met an internet friend and professional contact Maggie Moyer, CESMT and TTEAM Practitioner. Maggie hosted my clinic in Westminster MD USA and then accompanied me to the IAATH conference at Portland, Oregon. We found a "tackstore", well actually it was a pub when we travelled up The Gorge with another therapist Pat Cleveland from Alabama with her brother. The best beer and hamburgers with a view that had me mesmerised, it was like a living postcard. |

July 2002
We filmed another segment for Animal Hospital, this time the star of the
day was Corry. Corry is here with her owner Natalie being interviewed by
Rebecca Harris before I arrive to see if kinesiology can provide an insight
into her fear of floating (trailering for you US folks)

March 2002
With the release of A Healthy Horse the Natural Way,
I have been busy with Radio, press and television interviews. One of
the most enjoyable days was doing a segment for Animal Hospital with
Kaye and Max volunteering to be interviewed by Lockie Daddo while we
decided what herbs and Bach flowers would be most appropriate for
Max's well-being.

December 2001
It was time for overseas visitors again. This time Amy Snow and Nancy
Zidonis authors and teachers of equine, canine and feline acupressure, www.animalacupressure.com.
It was nice to have an easy weekend of showing off my Sydney. We
included as many horse spots from Centennial Park, Randwick Racecourse,
Princess Anne Arena and some of my favourite stables in Terrey Hills and
Duffy's Forest, and of course sampling Australian beer at the Newport Arms
as well as the usual view of the Opera House and a drive across the Harbour
Bridge.

November 2001
November was an exciting month. I attended the Sassy Awards, a yearly event
for a group of Australian writers, and was very surprised when I won a Sassy
Award for "A Healthy Horse the Natural Way".
I also managed to win three of the raffles that night, so I now have plenty
of Australian books to give to friends this Christmas! With two hours sleep
after all that excitement, I flew to Melbourne for the last day of
Equitana. |

November 2001- a busy
month! With the assistance of airline coffee, I enjoyed the day checking out what the horse scene had to offer. A happy and
friendly meeting was with Hilary Self of Hilton Herbs and author of "A
Modern Horse Herbal" www.hiltonherbs.com.
It was refreshing to find someone of like mind and able to discuss whatever
aspect of horse health naturally we ventured into. We made a couple of
visits to Hilary's stand, especially when we needed a little sunshine to
keep us going around the exhibits. |

September 2001
The Australia Racing Institute at Cabarita Beach proved to
be the most delightful venue to present "Aromatherapy for Your
Horse". The students at this weekend were scented and discovered how
powerful an aroma from a carefully selected essential oil can be with the
horses. Pictured are two of the participants, Akiko and June with Harry showing
interest in the essential oil.

August 2001
The highlight of August was having
EquiHomoeopath, Tanya Nolte visit. Tan and I often consult or refer to
each other and we spent the afternoon touring Sydney and introducing
Tan to some of her internet clients. George was reluctant to be a
photo study, he was still recovering in his paddock at Kenthurst from
the removal of large bladder stone.

July 2001
Rain had been predicted for the week we planned to do the
photos for the massage chapter in my 'yet to be named' next book. Somehow
the angels managed to pull back the clouds over Duffy's Forest long enough
for us to snap all the black & white shots. Addy had given us a scare
the day before by backing into a supporting pole that collapsed and then
the attached roof from his tack room fell on him, but being a
stoic warmblood you would never have known the fright he gave his
owner Prue at the time because on the day he was the most
professional model. As we packed up from the shoot, the clouds closed back
in and the rain fell again.

May 2001-Lunch in the City
I really enjoy meeting visitors from overseas and I was not
disappointed when Suzanne Catty, aromatherapist and author from Canada
emailed me to meet up during her visit. The ideas outlined in
her brand new book, "Hydrosols: The Next
Aromatherapy" is really worth reading and opens up a
whole new dimension to aromatherapy. It also has a small section on
cats and dogs which is safe to use with your pets.

April 2001
It is always refreshing to learn something new.
April began with a craniosacral workshop presented by Maureen Rogers at
the University of Western Syndney's Hawkesbury Campus. Maureen
found time to work on a weanling with a dent in his face and was quickly
assisted by his paddock mates.

October 2000
I was at the Paralympics massaging and
scenting horses competing for Germany, Norway, Australia, Japan,
Bermuda, Croatia and Great Britain. I massaged sore shoulders, eased
stiff backs, even a sore groin. Horses inhaled oils to ease worry and
anxiety, while showing their adaptability, and most were older horses
understanding the different needs of these special riders. The riders,
just in themselves, were inspiring.

September 2000
Finally someone arrived and it as party time with plenty of smiles
as competitors began winning medals. What a fun time we had
celebrating the Bronze medal win by the US Dressage team. |

Television Stars!
I turned up to check on Julie's horse for the State Disabled Riders
Championships and I suddenly became groom and helper for the cameras.
This was for a filler story on ABC-TV during the Paralympics, I was so
busy during the games I didn't see it run or not.

June 2000
Janine Sheperd is new to riding. She has partial paraplegia
after an accident well documented in her book
"Never Tell Me Never". Well here she is with Jacananda Tisharna who
is having her first aromatherapy treatment in preparation for the State Disabled Dressage
Championships in July. Janine had just been assessed as a Grade 4 competitor after riding for
only 6 months. This is a remarkable achievement for an able-bodied rider and you can
expect to see Janine and Sharni competing at many competitions to come. |

March 2000
Lynn Palmer UK Equine Aromatherapist

January 2000
Was the month
Sydney was visited by two very different natural horsemen from the US of A. Monty Roberts
performed his style in front of 4,500 people at the Superdome. His has to be admired for
being able to get so many people to a horse event and to begin thinking about a gentle way
with horses. I am unsure if I could duplicate his methods in the set 30 minute
restriction. Mark Rashid on the other hand only took 7 riders in a clinic and gave them
each individual attention in front of about 50 auditors at Il Cadore, Somesby. I was lucky
enough to be one of the riders and the magic Mark brought out in my riding still amazes
me. Spring Festival was loaned to me by the Sydney host for Mark's clinic,
Lyndall Ball. This picture was taken straight after my last session, I
am not sure if I am exhausted from riding or satisfaction |
